Kuranda is an Aboriginal word meaning 'a plant' (Source: Aboriginal Place Names by A.W. Reed) and is the name of a town in Queensland. Kuranda Crescent was an extension of an existing Newcastle street into Lake Macquarie Council area in 1977.
