Industrial
Industrial heritage is fundamental in helping individuals and communities define who they are both to themselves and to the outside world. It is a major part of the record of the lives of ordinary men and women, and as such it provides a link to the past for those engaged in family and local history research.
The bountiful natural resources of Lake Macquarie have ensured we have a proud history of coal mining, fishing, boat building and manufacturing. While the need for coal was a major factor in our industrial development, large scale industries such as Pasminco-Sulphide have been major employers of Lake Macquarie residents and played a significant part in the establishment and growth of nearby suburbs.
