Lake Macquarie History

People

People are the foundation stone of any city. Their shared stories and experiences become the history that gives a community its sense of identity and connectedness.

From our first Aboriginal communities with their rich oral history, traditional customs, stories and beliefs, to the early white settlers who built industries and their families, the history of Lake Macquarie is a story of its people.

Lake Macquarie is fortunate to have counted among its residents people of note in the fields of sports, art, literature, business and industry. However it is also the stories of everyday people living everyday lives which have contributed to our history and made Lake Macquarie the city that it is today.
