Private Stephen Greenfield enlisted on 13 July 1915 and joined the 1st Battalion, 11th Reinforcements of the Australian Imperial Force, He was killed in action in France 22-25 July 1916 and is commemorated in the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux. His brother Albert Greenfield was killed in action in December of the same year. Both were the children of Samuel and Isabella Greenfield of Killingworth.
