Original caption: Dudley Coal Mine. From a postcard from the collection of George DURHAM born Charlestown Nov 1900, father of Freda Laycock who now holds the original. It has been identified from 'A History of Dudley'(1987) page 23 as being a photo of relatives waiting for news after the disaster at Dudley Mine in March 1898. The photograph may have been taken by Ralph Snowball as contemporary photos are attributed to him in the book. This photograph is one of a collection of images donated by Freda (nee Durham) and Ken Laycock in 1988. The Durham and Laycock families were early residents of the Charlestown area.
