Original caption: Ken Laycock outside the kitchen of his parents' house at Whitebridge (near the railway line to Belmont, opposite the Burwood Colliery dam) 3 Nov 1921. Not all houses were weatherboard. It was often a case of what could be afforded. The front wall of this house was hessian stiffened with liberal coats of whitewash while the long wall of the kitcnen was covered with sheets of bark. Ends (one seen in this photo) and roof were of galvanised iron. Lake Macquarie NSW. 3rd November, 1921 This photograph is one of a collection of images donated by Freda (nee Durham) and Ken Laycock in 1988. The Durham and Laycock families were early residents of the Charlestown area.
