On 26th September, 1975 these units were opened in James Street behind the Fire Station. The NSW Minister for Housing, The Hon. L.T. McGinty, officially opened the units and named them Terranora which is aboriginal for "small creek". The pensioners who first took up residence in the units formed a Pensioners Association, and this organisation has since combined with others to lobby governments for better conditions for pensioners.
