The foundation stomes were laid on either side of the front steps in a ceremony on 20 April 1901. The building has had many uses over the years. It doubled for some time as the community hall, The rear portion of the building was the temporary home of West Wallsend Workers club for a period.from August 1947-1954. It also operated as a branch of Lake Macquarie Library from 1954-1986, and as a Community Centre.
