Originally named Dudley Bluff Road, this name was rejected by the Dept of Lands. It was then proposed to be named A.R. Cant Street, after a Managing Director of Dudley Coal Co, but this name was also rejected, this time by Australia Post. The name Knoll Avenue, inspired by a geographical feature of the area, was given on 24 October 2008. The developer was De Witt Consulting (Folio 10427).
