Lake Macquarie History

Tierneys Road

Historic LMCC rate records covering the period from 1929 to 1944 show ownership of 130 acres of land (portions 32 & 124) around what is now known as Tierney's Road by Mrs Lavinia Louise Tierney. Feedback provided on the origins of Tierney's Road indicates Harold BedeTierney lived at the end of portion 124 until he moved from Martinsville in the late 1950's. After Tierney left the property to move to Norah Head, his sons Joseph Frances Tierney and John Vincent Tierney continued to live on and farm the property growing citrus. Joseph was married to Patricia (Mary) Anne Tierney and they raised three daughters Marguerite Agnes, Kathleen Anne and Patricia Frances. Members of the Tierney family continue to live on the property as of 2021. Early parish maps show the portions of land were originally owned by Mr Michael Henry Lynch, the road was unofficially known by locals as Lynch's Road. The road was gazetted Tierney's Road on 8 May 1998.
