Lake Macquarie History

Mitchell Street

Mitchell Street at the north eastern end of Teralba School, is named after Dr James Mitchell, from a biography by C E Smith. The Mitchell Library in Sydney was founded by David Scott Mitchell, his son. It was originally used as a walkway with a wooden footbridge over a watercourse. The Council authorised the repair of the footbridge after the Teralba Advisory Committee said planks were missing in the bridge. (Source: NMH 14 December 1949). Eventually this street became non trafficable and has been taken off street directories.
