Toronto Street
Toronto Street was named in the Town of Awaba map of 1961.This name was chosen for the town after a visit to NSW by the world rowing champion, Edward Hanlon, in 1887. He came from Toronto, Canada. To capitalise on the publicity the name was selected for a new resort on Lake Macquarie. Toronto is a Mohawk Indian term meaning 'where there are trees standing in the water'. There is an industrial section, waste management centre and gravel road rural area in this street.
