Built in 1936 to Wangi it was originally called Stockyard Creek Road. Wangi Road is part of Main Road 217 that leads to Wangi Wangi and on to Morisset. Wangi is an Aboriginal word with three meanings' 'night owl, evergreen tree, large water'. (Source: NMH 14 May 1991).
