Nikkinbah is an Awabakal word meaning 'a place of coal' (Source: L.E. Threlkeld). It is part of the Wommera Estate, auctioned in 1925. Nikkinbah Street was built in 1926.With John Darling mine in the area it was indeed a place of coal.
