Lake Macquarie History

John Young Community Hall, Cardiff

Named after John Campbell Young, long serving Lake Macquarie Shire Councillor, who worked on the Community Hall Fundraising Committee as secretary. This hall was opened on 28 November 1964 by JB Simpson MLA. Finance was by the Joint Coal Board, LMSC and funds raised by the Community Hall Committee. Acknowledged on a plaque within the hall are: Councillor TR Pendelbury, Shire President, I Allomes, Shire Engineer, Cr J.C. Young, Committee Secretary, GH Bennett, Shire Clerk, FH Cockerill MLC and Committee President, EH Palmer, Committee Treasurer
