Doctor's Residence - Doctor Cohen

  • Doctor's Residence - Doctor Cohen

    Photo Ref: 25424

The Doctor's residence and surgery was on top of the hill in Clarke Street with magnificent views over Moonee beach and Catherine Hill Bay beach. The water tank is still on site along what is now called Montefiore Road however the house burnt down after the last doctor moved into Swansea. Originally the Doctor was paid by the mining company and a certain payment was taken from the miners. The doctor was required to be on call for mine injuries. The surgery waiting room was attached to the side of the house and looked like a tiny church. It faced towards the hotel. When private medical cover came into being and transport improved Dr Cohen moved the medical practice into Swansea.
