Patriotic rally. Charlestown Public School, Lake Macquarie NSW. December 1914

  • Patriotic rally. Charlestown Public School, Lake Macquarie NSW. December 1914

    Photo Ref: 4294

    Creators:

    • Laycock, Mr Ken
    • Laycock, Mrs Freda

Original caption: Charlestown Public School 1914. End of school in right rear, and school bell clearly seen in background. A contemporary picture is dated by hand (probably by George Durham) 'Taken Dec 16th 1914' so the occasion would seem to be a patriotic rally related to World War I. This would fit in with the flags and rosettes worn by the girls. Original postcard from the collection of George Durham held by Freda Laycock. This photograph is one of a collection of images donated by Freda (nee Durham) and Ken Laycock in 1988. The Durham and Laycock families were early residents of the Charlestown area.
