After arrival at Belmont, in steam hauled days the locomotive ran round its train prior to departing on the return journey to Newcastle. Such was the case on Sunday 23 September 1962 as 3097 prepares to run round its train prior to returning funnel first to Newcastle. The Pacific Highway lies beyond the veteran locomotive which was built in England in 1914. The last scheduled steam hauled passenger train departed Belmont on Sunday 13 May 1967. However, with the failure of the listed CPH rail motor to take over the Belmont passenger service, steam returned momentarily on Wednesday 17 May 1967. Photo. E.A. Downs.
