Aerial photograph showing Belmont station

  • Aerial photograph showing Belmont station

    Photo Ref: 22182

    Creator: Tonks, Mr Ed

This detail of an Avion view of the early 1950s shows the position of the coal loading facilities at Belmont relative to the lagoon on the left, the Pacific Highway, and Lake Macquarie on the right. Gen Street separates the lagoon and associated vegetation from the suburb of Belmont. The buildings, platforms and waiting shed of Belmont Station are clearly seen in the lower middle distance. Some of the wagons closest to the camera are at the Belmont Colliery Company’s sidings which had had much of their trestle incline replaced by an earthen embankment. The wagons on the angled road are positioned for the Cam and Sons sidings which catered largely for Wallermaine and Normaine coal. Photo from Dudley School Collection. From “Adamstown via Fernleigh”
