    Original caption: The BARNES family at their Hillsborough house about 1896. L to R: Florence Margaret BARNES (born Hillsborough 1886), Jane (n Johnston) BARNES, Stephen Richard BARNES, Stephen BARNES, Henry BARNES (grandfather of Freda Laycock). The eldest daughter, Emily Jane is not present as she married, at this house in 1889 (aged 14), a miner at the "Gully Pit" named Frank WESTBROOK. They lived for some time in one of the miners' cottages in 'Blackleg Row' on Lambton (now Charlestown) Road before moving to the Boolaroo/Teralba area, where descendants are still living. This photograph is one of a collection of images donated by Freda (nee Durham) and Ken Laycock in 1988. The Durham and Laycock families were early residents of the Charlestown area.
