Joy 11cm continuous miner buried in a seam at 1 West Section at West Wallsend Colliery, Borehole seam.

It was buried initially in late September 1977, and took many weeks to recover as the roof covered the miner back to the next cut-thru requiring spillage to be carried out through the fallen roof material, until the miner was found. Photograph taken approx7 pm on 7th December, 1977
