    West Wallsend Colliery granted around 2 hectares of land for the use as a cemetery and a title deed was signed on 4th February 1890. It started life as a private cemetery owned and controlled by a trust which reported back to the mine manager, but was given over to Lake Macquarie Council control in 1969.
