Wommara Avenue
Part of what was to become Wommara Avenue was subdivided in 1916 though this appears to have not been successful. Wommara is an Aboriginal word, which refers to an instrument used to enhance the throwing of a spear (Source: "Aboriginal Words of Australia" by A.H. and A.W. Reed). The huge Wommara Estate was auctioned in 1925 and Wommara Avenue was built in 1926. The estate location was called Wommara for some time before becoming part of Belmont North.
