Lake Macquarie History

Myuna Bay Recreation Area

Myuna is an Awabakal word meaning ‘clear water’ (Source: “Awabakal Word Finder” by J Maynard). The recreation area is 11 ha and is part of the Lake Macquarie State Recreation Area gazetted in 1996. One part was previously owned by Pacific Power and the Dept. of Land and Water Conservation was responsible for the rest. This was the site of P. Whitehead’s vineyard in 1898.
