Lake Macquarie History

The Ridgeway

Previously an unofficially named street, it was gazetted 'The Ridgeway' on 25 November 1977. The residents had petitioned Lake Macquarie Council for this name to be given to their street. As the name suggests, The Ridgeway runs along the ridge of a hill, the origins of which commence from Marmong Point. The Bolton Point School was here, opening in 1943 and closing in 1966. The Macquarie Shores Retirement Community owned by RSL Care, which began as Bolton Point Returned Soldiers Home, opened officially in 1955 in this street. There have also been some suggestions that this was a site where corroborees had been held. A water tower is a feature of the street.
