    Original caption: Charlestown Public School Jan 1907, West side towards Dudley. The area beyond the fence was later acquired for the school and used to extend the school by the addition of three classrooms (now used as the Assembly Hall by the Infants' and Primary School) which became available in Dec 1926 (see page 19 of 'Centenary of Education Charlestown 1879-1979') The open area from the school to the new boundary was, in the 1920s/1930s when Freda and Ken Laycock were attending the school, the boys' playground (with pan lavatories near the fence). Original postcard held by Freda Laycock. This photograph is one of a collection of images donated by Freda (nee Durham) and Ken Laycock in 1988. The Durham and Laycock families were early residents of the Charlestown area.
