Name changes over the years
Arcadia was the original choice of name until it was discovered that a suburb on the North Shore of Sydney was called Arcadia, so because of mail problems the name was then changed to Baddeley Bay, a choice approved by Lake Macquarie Shire Council and the Toronto and Wangi branches of the Australian Labour Party. Some time after the name was then changed, unofficially to Kirkdale in recognition of one of the areas first settlers Mr Joseph Kirk. Finally in November 1947 a public meeting of towns folk, in November 1947, finally put an end to the controversy. The name Arcadia Vale was approved by the Postmaster-General's Department and the Lands Department. The council and Progress Association also agreed. Arcadia Vale School opened in 1958 with 48 children.
