Nancy Dwyer Netball Courts, Cardiff

Named in appreciation of Nancy Dwyer who began training netball on private property at Cardiff in 1957 and later at Cardiff oval. In 1963 the netball club was formed when the courts were built. During her association with netball she was a foundation and life member, secretary, Captain of a state representative team, coach of a state team, an A grade umpire, convener of the Newcastle Netball Association, and coach to disabled people. In 1987 she received the LMCC Administrator of the Year Award, and coached overseas in Tonga, Vanuatu, West Samoa and the Cook Islands. In 1992 she received a netball service award and a Department of Education award for service to the Lakeside SSP School. Nancy was awarded the 2000 Australian Sports Medal. In 2002 she received the Centenary of Federation medal and was nominated for the National Australia Day Council Citizens Award. This all had been done for the love of sport and friendship over more than 45 years. A remarkable sports person.
