Wal Drane Playground, Dobinsons Reserve, Blacksmiths
Wal Drane playground was named in March 2004 because of the significant role Wal played in the Blacksmiths community. Wal has been a member of the progress association, has been very active in sporting and community groups and has made an enormous contribution to the Blacksmith school ~ he has even written a book about the area. As a tribute to Wal Lake Macquarie City Council dedicated the Wal Drane playground for the use of local families. Wal has received two Shortland awards: the Centenary Medal and the Seniors award.
The playground was funded by the council and Department of Sport and Recreation.
