Lake Macquarie History

Bulgonia Road

An unnamed road, it was gazetted Bulgonia Road on 30 March 1962. Bulgonia is the name of an early subdivision held in Brightwaters on 25 March 1925. The crown was the vendor. In records held at LMCC Library, the name Bulgonia may have been created from using the Aboriginal word 'bulga' meaning 'single peak on the mountain'. (Source of the word bulga comes from "Place Names of NSW" by A.W. Reed). The Brightwaters Christian College is in Bulgonia Road.
