Lake Macquarie History

Windermere Park

Name Origin:

Windermere Park is a neighbourhood on the Morisset Peninsula about 3 km west of Sunshine and about 1 km south east of Bonnells Bay. The Windermere Park Estate was subdivided in 1924 and would be named from Windermere Lake, the largest lake in England. The old English word 'mere' means lake.

The placename of Windermere Park in the Parish of Morisset was assigned the designation of suburb on 10 August 2001. In Lake Macquarie LGA the boundaries are shown on map GNB 3506 (Source: NSW Geographical Names Board). Reticulated water came in 1963 (Source: "Pipelines and People" by J Armstrong).
