Windale Fire Station and International Fire Engine. 1975

  • Windale Fire Station and International Fire Engine. 1975

    Photo Ref: 4881

On the 20th May, 1971, Windale Fire Station was officially opened by Mr J.R. O'Donnell who was the Deputy President of the Board. The first motor appliance installed in Windale Fire Station was a 1962 Bedford that had been transferred from Stockton. In March, 1973 the Bedford was transferred to Paxton and the imported Japanese Isuzu was installed in our station. In May, 1973, two months after delivery, the Isuzu was extensively damaged in an accident on the corner of South and Cherry Streets. It was withdrawn from the fire service fleet of vehicles and our station was given a 1939 Mack. In 1975 the station took delivery of a new International fire appliance. The first fire the Brigade attended was in Cherry Street, Windale at 11.41 a.m. on the 18th October. Source: Saxby, Max The history of Windale: a surprise township, 1990.
