Lake Macquarie History

Woodrising

European History

The success of and "Australia II" in winning America's Cup in 1983 provided a source of rich and colourful names. A new suburb named Woodrising was being developed by the NSW Dept of Land and Housing and street names were chosen from this source. The Geographical Names Board defined the suburb's boundary in August 2001. Originally part of Quigley's Estate the name Woodrising was influenced by the wooded nature of the estate. There are at least two villages with his name in the U.K.

Woodrising has a shopping centre with post office, preschool and Neighborhood Centre. There are access roads from Booragul and Bolton Point. A small LMCC Wetlands area is where Marmong Creek passes through Woodrising.
