Codes Found on the Redhead Rolls of Honour
Corp.
= Corporal,
Pte. = Private,
Vet.Sgt
= Veterinary Sergeant, KIA = Killed in Action.
Of the four soldiers who were KIA, (Killed In Action), marked on the
plaques with an *, three were once students at Redhead School - Herbert
Bradley, Robert Croker and Harold Moore, while John Griffiths who was
also killed in action, probably attended school in his native Wales.
This plaque, first donated in 1926 and then displayed on the Memorial
Hall is very difficult to read. It is important to realise that all the soldiers
were “honoured” whatever their contribution in the Great War.
Another form of recognition was the marble
plaque presented in 1950.
Note that by this time some confusion about
the names had arisen.
