REDHEAD ANZAC CENTENARY PROJECT
The Redhead Sustainable Neighbourhood Group, with the cooperation of
Redhead Public School, has completed an ANZAC Centenary project that
recognizes the centenary of Australia’s involvement in the First World
War (WW1).
The project was made possible by funding from the Australian
Government Department of Veteran Affairs, Anzac Centenary Local
Grants Fund.
The project included:
1. The erection of a plaque in the school’s ANZAC memorial garden to
honour the three ex-students of Redhead Public School killed in World
War 1; Herbert Bradley, Robert Croker and Harold Moore;
2. The creation of a set of murals with a World War 1 theme, on a small
storage building as part of the Memorial Garden at the school.
3. Completing research into the involvement of local people and events,
and the lives of soldiers from Redhead who served in World War 1, and
the production of this booklet to report that research and to provide
stimulation for additional research by local students and researchers.
The murals and plaque were unveiled at the school’s ANZAC ceremony
on Friday, 1 May 2015.
1. Plaque:
The plaque is mounted on a large block of sandstone and
honours the sacrifice of three ex students. Private Herbert Bradley, who
was killed at Messines, Belgium in June 1917; Private Robert Croker,
killed at Passchendaele, Belgium, in October 1917; and Private Harold
Moore, killed at Villers Bretonneux, France in April, 1918.
